Delivering Reliable Power Through HV/LV Overlay Schemes in Yorkshire
For over two decades, our team has been a trusted partner for Northern Power in delivering HV/LV overlay projects across Yorkshire.
Our expertise lies in:
· Replacing faulty cables: We ensure a reliable power supply by identifying and replacing faulty high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cables within the existing network.
· Network upgrades: We plan and execute upgrades to the current HV/LV network infrastructure, ensuring it meets evolving energy demands.
· Traffic-sensitive solutions: For situations where open-cut trenching is unavoidable, we prioritise techniques that minimise traffic disruption, such as installing multi-way ducts under sensitive junctions using trenchless methods.
Minimising disruption
We utilise trenchless techniques like ‘moling’ whenever possible. This reduces disruption to residents and businesses during LV service replacements. Our moling techniques allow for efficient cable installation from the newly laid LV mains cable on the footpath directly to the customer’s meter housing, typically covering distances of 20-30 meters.
A small Grundomatte ‘mole’ (50mm) is launched from a pit on the footpath and navigates under driveways or maintained grassy areas to a receiving pit.
A 45mm cable duct is pulled behind the mole, enabling the LV cable to be subsequently pulled through and terminated at the meter housing.
Importantly, all LV jointing work is undertaken with minimal outage (15-20 minutes) to reconnect the LV supply to the meter housing.
Project success
In 2015, we replaced 25km of LV mains cables and 5km of HV mains cables on a housing estate in Doncaster. This project encompassed all HV/LV mains cable replacements, including streetlight cables and customer service cables. Our close collaboration with residents and the highway authority resulted in a project delivered on time, within budget, and exceeding expectations. Testimonials from satisfied residents are forthcoming.
We are proud to be a trusted partner for Northern Power in maintaining and upgrading Yorkshire’s electrical infrastructure, on time and in budget.
